Oh, How I Wish My Class Ring Gave Me Superpowers…

If you’re looking to learn anything about me, the first thing you’ll know is that I love to write! I’ve been writing stories since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. I wrote scripts in colored pencil when I was 9, and in my sophomore year of high school, I planned on writing a script for Disney Channel. I had the premise and the characters, but not much dialogue. That was the hard part because I was pushing myself too hard, trying to write something good enough for Disney Channel. I was fifteen at the time, so it made sense that I didn’t know who I was as a writer. I just wrote stories and songs, but never scripts. Nowadays, I have loads of dialogue in my notes for multiple different stories I plan on writing (if I ever have the time.)

Lately, I’ve been watching the “Pitch Perfect” movies and a Disney show called “Lab Rats: Elite Force,” and I came up with an exciting plot for something I might write in the future. What if a girl gets her high school class ring, unbeknownst to her that it has superpowers linked to it? (A) Let’s call her Belle (mainly because I love Beauty and the Beast.) Belle (like me) has a bit of stage fright and issues with her confidence but wants to be a pop star more than anything. So, when Belle gets the class ring and puts it on, she discovers she has a newfound confidence and less stage fright. She also has amplified vocal power, which means that she can do anything with the power of her voice. (X) For example, she can help protestors of Anti-LGBTQ laws get what they’re looking to achieve. She soon finds out that the stone in the ring isn’t her birthstone, but instead this rare stone that looks exactly like it. When she realizes what it can do, she never takes it off. With these powers, it becomes evident that her powers could do more harm than good if influenced by the wrong people. Knowing this, Belle does her best to avoid the popular clique at her school. One of whom steals the ring gaining Belle’s power, and selfishly uses it to their advantage. (B)

If this were a Disney show or movie, it would be quickly resolved by some overused trope of humiliation to get revenge and to get the ring back. While I’d love to use that trope (she said sarcastically,) I find it tiresome. Why would anyone want to stoop that low to get what’s yours back? I understand it, but it can get boring after a while. However, I do love identifying the climax of any movie. Usually, it’s either really angry or really sad. I like when a climax keeps me guessing, and I can’t figure out how the entire climax plays out within the first minute of it. I’m also someone who enjoys mixing fantasy with what I know intellectually. I like to weigh my options and make lists while predicting any possible outcome when thinking of my options. I wouldn’t want the climax to be a predictable “I’m screwed, what am I going to do?” kind of situation. I’d much rather the climax be something like Belle has her fleeting moment of paralyzing fear and doubt but then makes lists and calculates a plan to get her ring back.

I feel like this sounds cliché of me to end it like this; however, I’d love for Belle to find a way after getting the ring back to make sure the ring can never be removed from her finger. I’d also love for her to have a rhino sidekick, mainly because I love rhinos, and I thought it would be pretty cool to have a rhino as a sidekick.
